Archived from groups: alt>books>george-orwell (more info?)

Earlier this evening I was pulling into little pieces some partially
frozen ham for a soup. As I contemplated taking a taste of one of the
chunky darkish bits, suddenly scenes from the movie 'Alive' came into
my head...this is a movie I have always regretted seeing. I tried to
replace these ungood images with something else, but the Siege of
Leningrad immediately jumped in from nowhere. Now then: this is a
siege I have always regrettted. No it just won't do. The Donner
majorly-not-fun Party rushed in at me. No! The Raft of the Medusa? No!
The Silence of the f***ing Lambs! No! Titus Andronicus! No! That guy
in Milwaukee! No! No! No! I knew well enough what was happening to me
- understood as well as I could how dreadful a destiny it was to be
standing here ripping up the bitter cold meat, my hands reddened by
the drudgery, poking a spoon at the foul curry soup.
