Can two people running different versions of Pro (2007/2008)still be able to
access the same company file in multi-user mode?
TIA

No. Each user must be using the same year version.

The answer is yes if you are using the Australian version of QB Pro
2007/08.

But the fee for a Premier licence is the same as two Pro licences and
you get 5 licences, or 3 for a lesser price. Are you bringing together
two separately acquired licences or are you wanting to buy two. If it is
the latter, buy Premier every time.

Thank you for your reply Laura.
Would you happen to know if two users running 2007/2008 could still access
the same company file if in single mode then?

Both users need to be in multi user mode, and there must be more than
one user set up in the file itself.

Thank you for your reply Bob.
I'm not sure I understand though.
It's my understanding that the purpose of Multi-User mode is so more than
one user can access the same file at the same time and that single user mode
means that more than one user can access the same file but *NOT* at the same
time. If my understanding is correct then I guess my question is if in
single user mode can two users have different QuickBooks versions i.e one
using version 2007 and the other using version 2008 but still work on the
same company file? Laura has made it clear that two users cannot access the
same file at the same time with different versions but now my question is
what about different versions and single user mode?

Aaahh. Sorry

I thought you were using the Australian versions. We use the 2007/08 tag
to mean the version released for that financial year from July to June.

Laura is quite right about both users having to use the same year
version. Each version only works with files that are made or upgraded in
that version. You can upgrade, but not downgrade if that makes sense.

Yes, you can get another license for 2007 if you call Intuit. Why not
buy another license for 2008 though?

Paula,

You misunderstood my answer. For any number of users (single or multi), they
must all be using the same version. A 2008 user CAN open the 2007 file but
it will convert the file to the 2008 format. As a result, the 2007 will NOT
be able to open the file.

Thanks for your reply Michelle. That is my dilemma and what I am trying to
decide. To explain, I purchased QB 2007 in anticipation of a business my
husband and I are probably starting later this year. An acquaintance of
ours offered us a brand new never opened retail version of QB 2008 which I
accepted. I had assumed that if I had version 2007 on my computer then my
husband could just install the 2008 version on his computer and we could use
the company file in Multi-user mode but now I see that is not possible. So
now I feel guilty accepting the free offer. I would either have to accept
his 2008 version, get a new 2008 license and throw out my perfectly good
2007 version OR just not accept his free offer and get another 2007 license.
So now I don't know what to do.

Check eBay to see if they have any cheap copies of either year for sale plus
check with Intuit on their price for a second license. You don't need the
