I just asked Iain M Banks if he was going to write another Culture
novel and he said, very publically, that he had every intention of
doing so and was a big fan of the Culture concept. He laughed off
rumours that he was tired of the Culture series or planned on ending
the series.

He said it will probably be 4 more years, since he plans to start
writting 1 book every 18 months being in his 50s now. He is planning
on switching back from M to non-M, and his next book will be a non-sci
fi followed by a Culture novel.

The best part about being there was watching Mr Banks laughing about
rumours that he was tired of writing Culture novels. He made it very
clear that he was a big fan of Culture novels. He even felt the need
to explain why it will take some years for it to come out.

But there is his longest novel ever, and once he is on the planet they
are all the same.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Damn--this is a long wait. The current one should have been
Culture! Oh well... ...tonyC<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

He also said that his agent was in negotiations to nail this all down.
He seems rather open to business side of things and with the Culture
books so popular I'm sure he will agree to write one.

What was best was Banks open statement that he is a Culture fan, that
he likes Culture fans and enjoys writing Culture novels. He even
laughed at the Internet rumour that he was going to stop writing
Culture books saying "a rumour on the Internet"

I guess we get used to having good things taken away when it turns out
the Banks is a nice guys who loves the Culture as much as his fans and
plans to write Culture novels in to old age its hard for us to accept
it.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

It's good to know he still enjoys writing. Some writers take long
career breaks because they lose interest.
