Just finished reading 'Dawn of Amber' by John Gregory Betancourt.

Disappointing is probably the politest word I could think of to describe it.

Has anyone read 'Amber and Chaos' yet? Is it better than DoA?

Gillian

I was pleasantly surprized by the first book. I finished it a week ago, and
am reading a book by Joan D. Vinge right now. I plan to start Amber and
Chaos as soon as I finish Fireship (which is fairly short, so it should be
this week).

I didn't out and out hate the book, but I felt it was somewhat lacking. The
story had promise, but it felt very rushed, and there didn't seem to be much
attempt to flesh out the characters, or to provide a credible level of
detail. I was especially annoyed in this regard by the 'battle' at the end
of the book, which was fought and won in the space of three pages.

Does anyone know how many years before the main Amber novels these prequels
are supposed to take place?

I enjoyed Dawn of Amber. My only complaint was that the book was too short.
It was as if the author was pushed to "cut, cut, cut" too much by his
publisher (don't know if that was the case, but I wouldn't be surprised) ...
regardless, I'm looking forward to reading Amber and Chaos.

Dawn of Amber - Cheapskate that I am, I waited until I finally found the first of John Betancourt's prequel in paperback. One word describes it. Great. I recommend it without reservation.
