It would appear that is the case.
I've never been a poster.... just lurked ... occasionaly depositing my two
cents...
Last several times I've checked... seems to be a spam graveyard.

I don't know if a.b.b's demise yet bears the stamp of officialdom.
However, the end does seem to have come. I now choke back a sob as I
recall the halcyon days of 1999. Goog, Kleinlagel, Jonesy etc. Their
names are legend.

It's kind of apt, isn't it? The penis enlargement lobbies, the crap
holidays to seaside self catering hotels, the invitations to boost yr
sexual attractiveness with pheromones. All it lacks is advertisements
for whiskey, raw whores and dead end jobs.

This is truth. The words that that man put brought to the page will bring
honor to his name and hard searing joy to rhose who are fortunate to read
them for as long as the written word itself goes on. He thrust a new form of
greatness onto american literature and that literature will never be the same
as before.

With all due respect, Prometheus, I must dispute this statement. The
Internet is too large and too recent to be dismissed so summarily. It has
become a new aspect of our reality, a thing that is forever changing the
people who experience it and being changed and expanded by these peoples'
reactions until it's infinitely huge and limitlessly variable, with the
potential to unleash a tremendous outsurging of information, creativity, and
untrammelled expression the like of humanity has never known or even imagined
before now. I think that right now, a decade or so after it surged into our
awareness, we've only just begun to comprehend all the possibilities and
implications of the Internet.

The Internet has its use(s), but the best use it can be put to is
problem-solving, and for that reason I wouldn't expect Buk fans to get all
antsy about it.

I'm a newcomer, curious about what sort of stuff went on in '99...

Ah yes, the internet. The hundreds of thousands of individual nodes
in the hive mind, each node the sole province of a semi literate
japanese fisherman amputee living on a modified Chinese junk with an
unquenchable thirst for knowledge or saki or whatever. The loopy
flavours of internet crap you can find in cyberspace, if you shop
around. Beach side holidays, virtual casinos, 18" penises, the
ability to work from home all outsurging into my inbox, now itself a
spam graveyard. Mind you, I dug it. The weekly pleas from Nigerian
Business men named Brown Themba who are the executors of deceased
estates to please save them from the agony of their humdrum lives by
sending them your bank details. I have. I suggest anybody reading
this post does too.
But you're right. It's wonderful. It's like a huge global brain with
neural pathways constantly splashing and dashing and crashing and
causing accidents, while the whole gestalt constantly reinvents itself
with sodomy.
It is a great library-the best, because it is dynamic. I just hope
like hell that it doesn't evolve opposable thumbs.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
