Does anyone know how I can process making payments by debit card. As when I
attempt to pay a bill the only options I have are to pay by credit card or
cheque. I do not use a credit card so I do not want to end up having an
unpaid credit card bill as the money comes directly out of my account at the
time of purchase.

Thanks in advance

Clive

A debit card is a plastic check. You use the check option in Pay Bills and
then select Assign Check Numbers instead of selecting to print. It pops a
window up with the bills you elected to pay and you're supposed to place
check numbers there. You can either hit enter and record no check numbers
or type "debit" in place of a check number.

I don't use it and it may be wrong, but I would set it up as a Bank
account, sub account of the Bank account.

Make a transfer from the Bank account to charge up the Debit Card
(Bank account) and book every Debit Card use to it.

If wrong, please educate both of us.

If you do that then you'll be having to reconcile one bank statement between
two "bank" accounts. Debits are checks without numbers so they should be
recorded as such. You can use the write checks window and not record a
number, or write debit, or use the Pay Bills screen and select "assign check
numbers" instead of print.

I use the write cheques window and change the cheque number to 'Visa'. If I
pay a bill by debit card I do as tee has said.

PLEASE DO NOT WRITE DEBIT OR VISA IN THE CHECK NUMBER SPACE FOR DEBIT CARDS.

YES, YOU MUST USE THE CHECK FORM,BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH QB IS AT LEAST $50.00
MORE THIS YEAR THEY DID NOT THINK THAT A PROGRAM THAT RELYS ON USING FORMS
TO MAKE BOOKKEEPING EASIER AND MORE INTUITIVE NEEDED A FORM FOR A DEBIT
CARD.

GO FIGURE!

PLEASE USE A SHORTENED NAME FOR THE VENDOR IN THE CHECK NUMBER FIELD. THIS
WILL MAKE RECONCILING ALMOST POSSIBLE INSTEAD OF GUESSWORK AGAIN THANKS TO
THE CLUELESS WONDERS AT INTUIT WHO ARE STEADILY DESTROYING WHAT WAS ONCE A
GREAT PROGRAM.

You'd make this post a lot easier to read if you drop the CAPS.

What are you screaming about? There's no issue with reconciling debits now,
never has been. The source name appears on the reconciliation screen, next
to the debit transaction/ck#. The debits are also sorted away from the
check numbers so no confusion there.

i think u would be better off (i know am now) to enter DEBIT
(actually i use DC, becasue i don't want to type that much! lazy!) in
the check number area...this way when u print reports, etc...all your
"DEBIT" transactions will be EASY to spot. I put the authorization
number in the memo...or if no auth. no. I use another number on the
recipt that will track it..such as maybe invoice number etc...be
careful not to use some ref numbers...they may eb a register or
employee numbee or some crap.

at first, i was enterig the auth number in my check number
space...since then..i haev chnaged it to DC (or DEBIT)...much
better...more organized and easier to see.

use the memo for all the other crap.

The current method works fine for me and all my clients.
None of us feels the need for ANOTHER transaction type that would be =
entirely identical to a "check" except for the check "number". After =
the initial realization that payment by debit card is functionally =
identical to payment by check, none of my clients finds a need for =
anything "more intuitive".

Good suggestion to use an abbreviation for the vendor - if that works =
for you, go for it!

I presume you have a disability that makes it difficult to type in mixed =
cases. I'm sure others would be more tolerant if they realized.

In the Canadian QB Pro04 I have the option to pay by check, credit card or
direct payment. Direct payment is for Debit cards and for bill payments over
the internet. If you chose check it asks for the number or assigns the next
number available. Direct payments don't do that, they are processed directly
from the bank account.
