With an upcoming seventh and eighth installment in the Hellraiser series
many have wondered how much the series can take before it ruins the entire
franchise. Clive Barker, creator, writer and director of the first two
Hellraiser movies, must have had similar feelings because he is currently
writing the definitive death scene of Pinhead.

Before Clive finishes his third of four Abarat books he will put together a
new book of short stories in the style of The Books of Blood. One of the
stories will be the final chapter of Hellraiser.

I don't believe you can ever write the "definitive death" of a character
like Pinhead... there'll always be a way to bring him back. As for the
franchise becoming ruined... I think that happened a long time ago.
Hellraiser III was laughable. Pinhead vs. Mike Myers? Jeez... It's almost a
shame that Pinhead has become such an identifiable piece of horror
iconography if it causes him to be associated with (by comparison) mundane
slasher types like Jason, Freddy, Leatherface, Mike Myers, etc. Not wishing
to criticise Halloweeen et al, as I love these movies, but Hellraiser is a
much more intelligent and dark piece of horror fantasy than the
aforementioned slashers.

So yes, great idea by Clive if he wants to kill him off... I guess he's
probably suffering from that classic
"artist-only-ever-recognised-for-success-of-his-most-famous-work-with-disreg
ard-to-other-more-interesting-projects" syndrome. But in attempting to cure
this, and even in trying to prevent more shit films being made, I'm sure
he'll fail miserably.

Can't wait to read new short stories from Clive though... now there's
something to get excited about.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Does this mean that Abarat 2 is done? Did I miss it?

The franchise was ruined the day some genius out there decided to make
Hellraiser 3 despite the fact that all the Cenobites were killed,
including Pinhead, in part 2. Hellraiser changed from a pair of
intelligent, somewhat original films to more of the same old garbage
we've had from the Friday the 13th etc... series all these years.

Unfortunately Barker sold the rights to Hellraiser (I believe it was
in order for him to direct the first film he had to sell the rights to
it). Meaning regardless of what Barker wants, the movie studio can
continue to make Hellraiser 9, 10, 11, etc... even if he's written a
story killing him off.

Barker says a lot of things that he never does. Remember the Third
book of the Art? I'll believe this stuff about a new Books of Blood
like collection when I have it in my hands. Considering he's written
nothing but duds for over 10 years now I'll certainly be happy to see
him return to his roots and write stuff similar in style to his early
work.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

being killed at the end of Hellraiser II didn't seem to slow him down very
much.

i once got into an amusing kind of game with a friend, relating to
Heinlein's character Lazarus Long. i'd write a short story killing him,
and Mike would write something explaining how he'd survive it.
i think at one point i destroyed the entire universe, but it didn't
even slow him down.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
