I see that the NG hasn't changed much since my last view of it.
T'is a pity. I miss the the give-and-take of the NG from just a
few years ago. All these extensive cross-posted flamewars are
quite boring.

I will not cross-post this one however. I will just say "howdy" to
any remaining a.b.t-c'er out there.

Howdy.
Chris

I am glad to see you stop in. I do miss the conversations that we
used to have. I don't see very many post anymore since I killed
almost all cross post.

Lot's of us track it, ignoring/killfiling the "extensive
cross-posted flamewars" [in fact, since DSH has chosen to *start*
most of his, I use that aspect to "kill" the posts in the other
groups in his chosen victims that I frequent].

The other factor in the group's inactivity has to be that TC is
now well over a year overdue in the book originally touted for
summer, 2005. Even pre-publication orders through Amazon, B&N,
etc, have been offered, accepted, then canceled after the
delivery delay reached too long a period with no, really firm,
actual date in sight..

So, whoever is left here, and I see posts from the wilderness
from time to time, seem to mostly lurk.

[Ryan Juniorverse II, the sequel, was going to be a duty
purchase/read only, anyway, if that is what it turned out to be.
I wasn't especially enthusiastic about Ryan Juniorverse, the
original.]

TC is probably a victim of his own success. He
doesn't HAVE to turn out any more books, and so he
doesn't. T'is a shame.

But in the culture of the NG, TC's books were only a
springboard to the real discussions...the discussions of
politics, social mores, ethics, religion etc.

These haven't gone away, of course.

But to state the obvious: the place is infested by trolls, and
it is difficult to separate the signal from the noise. And I
recently up all efforts to do so.

I lurked for a while. But gave up even on that.

I do occasionally post to John Atkinson's blog:
http://www.castrorum.blogspot.com/

But don't have a lot to say, even there.

Y'all stay salty.

Agent 4, I put D. Spenser Hines in my killfile as ignore subthread.
Presto, most all the garbage is gone. There isn't much left, though.

Haven't lurked here for quite a while. Been kinda distracted.
As you know, I'm also posting to John's blog occasionally, but it isn't
quite the same ... it's his space after all, and he's got other stuff
on his mind, out there in Ramadi.

I just hope for his safe return to his lovely soldier's girl.

Probably true. At some point work just becomes too much work, no
matter how much you might enjoy the process.

:But in the culture of the NG, TC's books were only a

Yes and no. All that stuff happened BETWEEN books. Of course, there
is more time between books than there is time that immediately follows
a book release, so...

:These haven't gone away, of course.

They largely have, and that's rather sad. Too many mindless trolls.

I forget what criteria I use to filter here - chuck everything
cross-posted to more than two newsgroups, I think, which gets rid of
most of the real idiots.
