Which is often very dubious in practice because other governments haven't
classified it. At one time some news people found out the best way to find
out about American top secret projects and bases was to ask the Soviets. At
the moment you could most likely find most of this stuff by asking Google.
If that failed try a French based search engine.

Unless the bobardier was dead before the plane went in, they got
nothing useable of the Norton -- my dad was an iordnance tech in the
Air Corps in WW2 and the Norton had two or three marks on the case
where the bombardier was to put .45 rounds in before he hit the silk,
to destroy the mechanism.

One for sure. However, it had a high velocity in an unknown direction,
so it's probably headed out system by the time Milla killed the Troll.

They'd want to find it even if they had the life craft (with complete
library) in hand.

True, not the first.

Phased antenna arrays are inherently directional, and I think I'm going
to have to let someone with current knowledge of antenna design handle
specifics on this further. I've seen RDFs on commercial boats that would
handle pointing to a burst from a random direction. Hunter-killers like
the Kanga would have equipment at least that good.

The Kanga might also see some of the space battles (no Compton Effect in
space to magnify the EMP), and that would allow DW to do more than
simply snuff the Kanga when they show up. If he writes a sequel in his
copious spare time <G>.

The basics regarding optics was not a secret. How the optics were put
together to make a Nordens was.

Assorted bloggers are also contending that the careerists in State and
the CIA are also doing all they can to embarrass Bush.

This may or may not be the case, as I seem to remember some embarrassing
leaks under Clinton.

I had forgotten that he wouldn't know exactly where he was after the
EMP fried everything.

Mars?! They're several light-months out! Remember, everything's all
over and settled, they're under their new identities and she's
pregnant enough to buldge a bit before the flash from the destruction
of the capital ships reaches Earth. Most of the dead fighters will be
there.

But it's broad spectrum. They won't pick it up.

If I remember correctly, the story ends shortly after the pilot 'buzzes'
a flight of airplanes. The good news is that he destroyed them with his
supersonic shock wave. The bad news is that he FOD's [*] his engine, and
has to eject.

[*] FOD = Foreign Object Damage.
