It turns out, to my surprise, that the United States isn't the
only nation to have a slightly-awkward-to-modern-politics verse in its
national anthem. Lord Goldsmith, advising United Kingdom prime minister
Gordon Brown on citizenship, reports having a number of people express
concern about the sixth verse of ``God Save The Queen'', which apparently
not just exists but is kind of focused on asking God to help Marshall
George Wade put down the aftermath of the Jacobite uprising of 1715:

Maybe we could bundle up all the various awkward obscure verses
from anthems and ship them off to some nation that hasn't got a good
national anthem of its own and doesn't mind if people start wondering
why they're so upset about rebellious Scots.
