Post subject: Happy 95th, Jan Balet! (German illustrator, "The Magic Fish-Bone" by
Archived from groups: rec>arts>books>childrens (more info?)

I THINK he's alive, anyway......

Born in Bremen, he came to the U.S. in 1938 and settled in NYC and
Long Island. Reportedly lives in Estavayer-le-Lac Switzerland, where
he moved to in 1978.

"Balet's painting has been influenced by Egyptian, Greek, and Roman
primitive art, as well as by Lautrec, Picasso, Miro, and other modern
French artists.........Former art director of Mademoiselle and
Seventeen magazines, both in New York City."
