I'm sorry, but this just baffles me. This movie, along with Inferno, was
quite similar to the first one in tone and psychological drama. Yes, there
weren't as many deep characters dished out in the same movie time, but I
chalk that up to writing prowess and can forgive someone not being able to
quite reach Clive's level ... but it's still interesting to watch and at
it's core, the first Hellraiser was about destruction of the soul. To me,
that is. This was similar.
But this had something extra that I thought absolutely rocked: Kirsty is
showing the effects of her exposure to Hell. She's kind of on her way to
being a Cenobite and when I finished the movie, that's the first thing I
thought. Actually, a whole movie about her becoming a Cenobite hit me, but
I'm going to keep that to myself for now, because if my writing career takes
off ... and I get the chance to submit something to the Hellraiser powers
that be ... well, I don't want to spoil it.
But here's what really, really bothers me. You hardly saw Pinhead in the
first one. He was only credited as Lead Cenobite. He works better that way.
They tried to make a whole movie around him, or more accurately, his human
soul, in Hellraiser III, and look how that went over (though it was all
worth it to witness Elliott's sacrifice at the end). I think Pinhead works
much better as a glimpsed character.
