Tarzan the Untamed, Grosset & Dunlap, Copyright 1920, Published April 22,
intact but some wear
The Son of Tarzan, Grosset & Dunlap, Copyright 1917, Published March 1917, very
good condition
The Return Of Tarzan, Grosset & Dunlap, Copyright 1915, good condition, some
minor wear and discoloration
no dust covers, no printing dates, all printed in New York
Are these first editions? Are they of any value?

Hi,
Grosset & Dunlap is a reprint publisher. None of them are first editions. For
instance, "The Return of Tarzan" was first published by A. C. McClurg, Chicago.
In fact, they all were. That is the First Edition. Grosset & Dunlap books
were usually done on cheaper paper with cheaper bindings. Occasionally,
however, they did Photoplay Editions from the movies, and sometimes those
editions have extra value.
In all likelhood, these books are worth at most $10 - $25, depending on
condition. A collector of Burroughs works seeking completeness would probably
be interested to fill up gaps in a collection.

Unless they are in pristine condition $10-$25 is extremely high.
They are very common and, to my knowledge, not highly sought after.
BTW, Grosset & Dunlap was not strictly a reprint publisher.
They were the original publisher of many juvenile series such as Tom
Swift, the Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew and dozens of others. >> Stay informed about: Help with Burroughs early Tarzan editions |

True, because the poster said they do not have
dust jackets. With d. j.'s, and in very good
condition or better, many dealers sell those
Grosset and Dunlap early ERB reprints for
over $100 nowadays. The ones with the
St. John cover illustrations are not that
common anymore, even in the G&D reprints.

What a difference a DJ makes!
I agree that with VG or better books w/DJs the price would be much
higher, although I don't know if $100+ is achievable at auction.
There is an active market for Tarzan books and memorabilia and, as
usual, high quality items are always in demand. >> Stay informed about: Help with Burroughs early Tarzan editions |
