What's the difference, exactly?
If it's just a matter of user interface, I have yet to see a web forum
whose structure is as convenient for discussions as Usenet's is
(probably because unlike the web, Usenet was designed specificly for
that purpose). As for Hobbit Forum in particular, it looks like it
isn't really even threaded at all: each topic has its own page, but
you can't track which message is replying to which.

Well... we get new people showing up here on a fairly regular basis
(the movies encouraged that a lot), so we've already got some of
that.
More importantly, I'm curious to know what is special about your site.
What makes it different from the dozens if not hundreds of other
Tolkien forums out there (many of which already have established
communities, and thus lots of people to meet)? I have a finite amount
of time to spend on my Tolkien hobby; why should I spend it there?
Why have you created a whole new forum instead of just joining one
that's already out there? (Those aren't purely rhetorical questions:
I honestly am interested in your answer.)

I guess that's the heart of my question: why will _anyone_ choose to
spend time at Hobbit Forum in particular? (Again, that's not meant as
an insult: you should be confident in the answer before you spend
money on a domain name!)
On another note, I'll admit to being rather confused about something:
What made you decide to start a forum about Tolkien at all?

From
some of your comments on the forum, I get the impression that it's not
a central interest of yours.
Good luck with the project, in any case.
