Yes.. it did turn out to be canadian league football, not hockey.. but
really, that just makes it worse... *sigh* and it's not part of the paid
programing.... *grumble* so, will just have to hope it shows up this week..
and the girls will just have to wait to watch it next summer.. or maybe just
wait til next christmas.....
(and, no offence meant towards any sports fans.. just would have really
prefered Hogfather.. since everyone else who gets the channel was getting
it....)

Just watched it on US TV. Excellent production, but totally marred by
ads. I sugest you splurge on the DVD.

Don't despair. One day, we'll find a cure for US television.

It really was badly marred. Way too many ads, really annoying ones, and
repeated over and over. And these hideous banner ads at the bottom
whenever the action was getting exciting. I would rather die than watch
Drew Cary's New Years Eve Special!

But my most excellent husband recorded it on a DVD as we went and
stopped recording for the ads, so the *next* time we watch it will be a
completely different experience. Can't get rid of the banner ads
though.

I would have bought the DVD in a second, but it was reported here that
it didn't include subtitles. We turned on the subtitles on Ion, and
while they were a bit eccentric and inaccurate, they were way better
than nothing.

Is this true? Our ad-less DVD came out to three hours total (so there
was an *HOUR* of ads!) How long is the DVD version?

We watched tapes instead of the game. Just be thankful that it's being shown
on a network that you have a chance of seeing. In Vancouver there's no
possibility of it happening so far, at least not on cable.

189 minutes, according to imdb.

I just got the feeling that some scenes had been omitted. For example,
we saw Nobby with his new crossbow, but we didn't see the scene where
he received it.

There were others, but my memory isn't what it was.

The TV channels take a procrustean approach to showing films, I'm
afraid (except for PBS). Sometimes I think that the whole point is to
force you to buy the DVD.

IIRC that wasn't in the version shown on UK television either, so it
probably wasn't there in the first place.

It's not on the UK DVD either.

We had preordered the DVD and had really really hoped it would show up
before the broadcast, so my step daughters could watch it as well...
Borders never did get hold of us to let us know it was in.. we had checked
in the store itself before Thanksgiving and they didn't have it. *sigh* We
were in the area again on the 26th so stopped in to check.. there were 3
copies on the shelf.. so figured, ok, maybe they called after we left this
morning.. went up to see if they had my reserved copy.. nope.. they hadn't
held any of them for anyone... we picked it up - off the shelf.. and with
only 3 copies in, I suspect they were all pre ordered and are likely to be
sold before anyone is notified that they are in, as they arne't being held
like they should be....
I am highly disappointed in our "local" Borders store at present..
But, we finally got to see the film and quite enjoyed it.. there were, of
course, things we missed (no Librarian?? Sad ) but, given the constraints of
budget and medium transfereance, we really liked it, and are prepared to be
lending it out quite a bit in the coming weeks.

I got mine (2-disc UK edition) from someone who had brought in a few
in his suitcase. I had to get a region-free DVD player to watch it.
The US edition should play on any US DVD player. Since you've seen
it, you can afford to wait until March 2008 for the unrushed edition
that will probably have both discs and optional subtitles.
