Only one I can think of is almost certainly even more unacceptable, if
that is possible: Asia Carrera.

Claudia Christian. She may be a bit on the upper edge, age-wise, but she
has the acting chops to pull it off.

But does he have enough clout to say 'my way or the highway'? David Weber is
a well known author within a certain reading community, but that might not
be enough. Even J.K. Rowling had to fight tooth and nail to prevent TPTB
from casting an American boy in the part of Harry Potter. If she can only
just manage it, what hope do the rest of us have? Smile

Any movie based on an HH novel is going to be expensive and difficult to
market, and I doubt the fan base is large enough to guarantee its success.
That means they need to broaden the appeal by a) simplifying or removing
certain parts of the story and b) casting someone who can put the most bums
on seats. If that means casting Tom Cruise as White Haven and Julia Roberts
as Honor Harrington, then so be it.

Well, David's said that any contract for the books will specifically
include a clause precluding her involvement. So, I'm pretty sure that he
has enough clout for that, given that a company currently has the rights
for the books. Smile

I seriously doubt any HH film is ever going to be made, so I'm not holding
my breath.

Further reflections;

Gillian, your suggestion of Rosamunde Pike is PERFECT! I just re-watched DAD
last night, and she has the looks, the figure, the HEIGHT, and can she
handle a blade!!
I've met Claudia Christian, and although I'd love to see her get more SF
work, she is a little thing. Great looking, but no, too short. Yes, I know,
CGI can do wonders, but she has to be able to stand up to her co-stars and
not look like a hobbit. Which of course, opens the door to the LotR sizing
controversy.
I think, the more I consider it, Ms. Pike would be just about perfect.
Now, we still need Alistair, Scotty Tremaine, and the rest. If they want
COMPLETE unknowns, I've some stage experience, and I guarantee I pass the
physicals for peckerhead Young; short, chubby, and bearded. As an ex-cop, I
can be officious enough. But I'm not sure I could convince people that I'm
that much of a flaming s)(#heel.
Depending on how much the script deviates from the novels, Michelle Yeoh
would be a great Allison Harrington.
Just had a thought. Remember the guy who did Gustav Graves in DAD? Perfect
for Denver Summervale!
See ya'll.

I don't remember offhand--it's mentioned in the press release for the RPG,
in the initial post in this thread.

Gotcha.

I'm now even less convinced that a decent HH film will ever be made Smile

And the even ghastlier movie 'The Order'.

For shame! You are hereby to be punished by reading the first
3 volumes of "Classic Prussian Poetry by Gustav Anderman." Now go
away and don't come back until you are truly sorry! And to think this
use to be such a respectable newsgroup.

Then allow the option to wear out and it reverts back to the
author. I remember Larry Niven saying that they did this to a couple
of his stories, "Inconstant Moon" was the one that he got repeat
options on that never went anywhere.

She also has a rather strong fan base and enjoys a lot of
support, so it helps.

Oh please! King is a great big skank, who sells movie options
like candy. He's lucky that he gets cameos in them.

Fine with me, though the way digital is going, you can expect
a huge explosion of films in 10 years. Imagine this, video fanfic
with all the CGI you can stomach .... eeewwww!

As am I.

Maybe I should return to voice work, but knowing my luck I
would get Rob Pierre. I would much prefer Nimitz and be his
voiceover, he gets all the good lines Smile

Heh, we've already got a bunch of that video fanfic as is with current
tech, although I count myself fortunate to mostly have only seen the
good stuff out there (definitely find the Star Wars vid "Troops" if
you haven't seen it, utterly hysterical stuff).

I dunno, I'm waiting until I see the "who's in the dub?" guessing game
thread pop up on animeondvd.com before I start figuring on it coming
out soon Smile.

I fear your odds of getting the Nimitz voiceover are pretty bleek Wink.
