Not much "back and forth," but here's what we did. I sat down and had
a cup of coffee with Bill in North Carolina, and we cobbled together an
outline of who the characters were and what we'd like them to do.
Then I flew back to California and bill started the 1st draft. He'd
call and ask me stuff about this and that and then send me a bunch of
pages. I'd then rewrite what he sent me to get it sounding a little
more like me, to keep it consistent with how I saw my universe, etc.
So, in that sense, we were co-story guys, with Bill being the "writer"
and me being the "rewriter." I'd say we spent roughly the same amount
of time on the story.
Now, I'll take all the credit for the good stuff and you can blame the
stuff you don't like on my partner. Bill says exactly the same thing.
