So the end of _At All Costs_ has both sides in a state of total shock over
their latest meeting to date and (apparently) eager, well perhaps not *eager*,
but desperate, to get their revenge on each other. Plus there are a few other
plot points DW needs to expand on

However, we're going to have to wait for the next Honor book and as far as I
can see it's going to be quite a wait.

Does any one have a timetable for the next installment *please*?

Ugh, but yeah, that's sort of what I was thinking.

I presume any Saganami II type book isn't going to be a direct sequel to
_Shadows of Saganami_ what with that being a stand-alone book (according to
the cover at any rate!).

Personally, I think it would be entertaining for the Kingdom of Manticore,
the Republic of Haven, the Protectorate of Grayson, and the Andermani
Empire, to join to "bury the hatchet" in the Solarian League.

He's supposed to have inked a deal for something late next year if I recall
right.

Will we be treated to a practical example of the alternative meaning of
"brief feelings of regret" on the part of those responsible?

At this point I didn't even suggest Victor would feel anything. That's what
makes him both effective and scary. If he has brief feelings of regret it is
likely to be after the fact. Before the fact he is on task. After the fact
he may not be retrospective. I suspect this is one reason why his friends
worry about him. Victor is border line for creating and running the ultimate
in police states.

Just think of Victor -trying- to be vengeful and cruel!!

I definately want him as a friend, if only because I'd be scared witless to
have him as an enemy.

Why do the thoughts "No one has ever been able to prove anything." and
"I have no surviving enemies." come to mind?

My suggestion for rapists is "shoot, shovel and shut up."
Use a backhoe. Because as any rapist's friends and family will tell you
"deep down, they're good people."

Victor is not "cruel". He's completely indifferent to the suffering of
others, especially when those others are considered part of the topography.
But the ones who are responsible for threatening his interests will, those
he will terminate with extreme prejudice.

Victor needs a T-shirt which reads "This side towards enemy."

For Victor to be completely indifferent to the suffering of others, he
would have to be a complete sociopath, which he isn't. What Victor can
do is feign indifference so well that people *think* he's a complete
sociopath.

He has a stronger than usual "us/them" sense. "Us" gets concern, "them"
get nothing, not even hatred.

You're right, he isn't cruel (nor is he indifferent). I was joking about
how frightening he'd be if he were.

Yeah, what he said. Victor is not a sociopath, just indifferent to
those who are merely part of the scenery (Like the Mesan operators he
"interviewed" in the Wages of Sin.). Or have betrayed the Revolution.
The point is, Victor doesn't agonize over having to kill someone, or
over having killed someone. He doesn't have to get worked up, he just does
it.
I suspect that he agonizes more over why he is not bothered by his
ability to kill or inflict bodily harm dispassionately.

Remember as well, he was mortified to discover that he thoroughly
enjoyed "ravishing" a "helpless" Solarian Marine Lieutenant.
