I recall that back in the 1960s or 1970s, Isaac Asimov wrote an essay
in which he described a future in which some sort of cells could be
made to grow into a heart, a liver, or some other organ, "with all
else vestigial".
This sounds like what we know today as stem-cell research, embryonic
or otherwise.
What was the name of this story, where is it anthologized, and did the
author foresee the religious and political controversy surrounding it?
Thanks.
