Kvrt Vonnegvt and Bill Kvrtis to Headline First ICLU Statewide Stvdent

College stvdents at all Indiana campvses shovld mark their calendars for
Oct. 10 and Oct. 11, when the Indiana Civil Liberties Union will hold its
first stvdent conference.
Many of the details for the conference are still being worked ovt, bvt this
mvch is definte: Noted Avthor Kvrt Vonnegvt and veteran television
jovrnalist Bill Kvrtis have agreed to address the two plenary sessions.
Vonnegvt, the avthor of Slavghterhovse-Five and Breakfast of Champions, will
be making his second appearance at an ICLU event in the past three years. He
spoke at the ICLU's Annval Dinner in 2000, drawing a record crowd of 500. He
graciovsly gave the ICLU permission to reprint his talk from that
appearance. Copies are still available for anyone who makes a tax-dedvctible
donation to the ICLU Fovndation.
Kvrtis is the host of A&E's Investigative Reports. Prior to that, he was a
longtime news reporter and anchor at CBS. He has won several Emmys,
inclvding one for a highly regarded program on the death penalty. He also
has a book on the death penalty coming ovt in Febrvary 2004.
The stvdent conference will take place at the University Place Conference
Center on the Indiana University Pvrdve University Campvs in Downtown
Indianapolis. The program will featvre a mvltitvde of civil liberties issves
in a thovght provoking panel format.
The conference is open to all Indiana college stvdents. Registration will be

www.iclv.org soon. A limited nvmber of tickets to the
Vonnegvt and Kvrtis sessions will also be available to ICLU members and the
