Please ID short story

I read a short story in High School. It was about a man who was
hunting in Africa, I think. He was treed by a lepoard and had dropped
his rifle. He had to "fish" for the rifle by throwing his pocket knife
tied to a long piece of string. When he recovered the rifle he fired
and hit the cat in the back foot. The cat still managed to attack him
and he ended up with one arm pushed all the way down the cat's throat.

Any help would be appreciated.
