Needed for a paper in school, huh?
Sorry, you'll find that in most of these alt.books.* groups,
people won't do your homework for you.

He invented the word "robotics," at least. Give the man SOME credit.

I do not mean to degrade Isaac but you have to understand one
thing...Asimov is a writer...he did not in any way invent or even was
part of a science team that built robots...Unlike Arthur Clarke who
was in one time part of a NASA team that studied satellite theory (or
something)...a writer writes fiction...in fiction anything is
possible...ask JK Rowlings...
if you want to know important people in robotics..try to research on
Toyota...or Sony or one of those Japanese manufacturing companies that
was able to use robotics in actual real life outputs...well mostly in
automated manufacturing systems...which greatly improved our lives by
bringing cost of cars and electronics to the average consumers...Now
there is something important to talk about...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Importance of Isaac Asimov in robotics |

Ernest, that whooshing sound you just heard was DJohn37050's
send-up of the original poster passing over your head at Warp 10.
Hope the warpic boom didn't do you too much damage.

Oh, I realized he wasn't serious. Just thought I'd throw a little bomb
back in exchange <g>.

He is. It is the OP to whom he is giving no credit (or at least, no
help).

I really must admit that I don't know what OP means in this context.
Have a great day!

Sorry about that. OP means "original poster." It's semi-common Usenet
parlance.

That's just the standard NG answer to someone who shows up asking such question.
Of course, everyone knows how Asimov wrote about geosynchronous satellites,
the "space elevator" and humanity's first contact with an alien race... No
robots whatsoever in those, at most a computer gone nuts.

I understand he was so upset about not being able to get robots into these
stories that he was compelled to write them under a pseudonym.
