There is this news that Universal Studio (finally, after so many
years)is planning to make a film out of Clarke's Childhood End. But if
they are looking for a "better" alternative", Imperial Earth would be
a great candidate. For one, i don't like how the Childhood End novel
was ended. Anyone likes the idea of an unknown goddamn force stopping
humanity (by consuming it) in mapping its destiny in the stars?
compare it with Imperial Earth's promise of a much greater future for
man and his adventurous spirit. Man for Mars, for Europa, for Titan,
and beyond...

I don't like the idea of "Childhood's end" being filmed either. It's not
noisy enough.

For me, the most filmable ACC novel is "A fall of moondust". Follywood could
do nicely with that one without having to destroy or invent too much in the
process.

CHARLES NOVINS:
I agree strongly with both statements. MOONDUST would be a remarkable,
straightforward, logical and gripping thriller. It might exceed 2001 in
terms of pure entertainment, since it wouldn't be burdened by the
mysticism/psychedelia at the end, or even the big overarching politics from
CHILDHOOD'S END. MOONDUST is an ideal Clarke film translation.

Sorry, I have to disagree. For me Clarke's Childhood End is his bets
work. I hope they make the film.
