Ayup Richard...

A terribly cynical POV, but valid, i guess, in the round. but then
Pterry *probably* moves in circles where charidee is all that's left
to *do* in those fleeting moments between Hello magazine parties and
*work*... plus, as i'm sure he mentioned, he'd actually been under
treatment for a number of months, and the donation wasn't an overnight
decision, just a simple *christian* gesture from a *better-off*
sufferer.

It shows me how much better he's got a *grip* on the concept of
mortality than maybe the rest of us....

And its STILL a nice thing to have done, considering the options he
may have chosen...

It wasn't meant to be a snipe at Terry but more a snipe at the OP saying
"GOOD ON 'YER Boy ". Terry's donation was motivated by self interest not
selflessness and, therefore, he does not deserve a pat on the back.

He just gave a fortune to charity - regardless of the motives that deserves
a pat on the back.

Self-involvement, yes; self-interest, no.

I disagree. *Most* people donate their money/time to causes that
especially interest them. That doesn't mean those contributions don't
count. And in order to be anything like *selfish*, he would have to
personally benefit from the research he is funding, and sadly, that's
very unlikely to be the case. Research takes a long time to pan out.

Fair point.

And in order to be anything like *self-interest*, he would
have to personally benefit from the research he is funding, and
sadly, that's very unlikely to be the case. Research takes a long
time to pan out
