I had the same problem this morning, I sent an email to one of the
people who help organise Firmin & Postgate's occasional talks. Asking
for condolences to be passed on. Couldn't see the much by the end of
writing.
'Today' were going to have a proper piece about him, but I was out of
house before it was on - I expect 'listen again' will have it though.
His passing was headline news though, and obviously something that
affected the presenters. A little bit of childhood left a lot of
people today.

We haven't lost that bit of childhood, though. Noggin the Nog is still
there, and the Clangers, and Ivor the Engine, and Bagpuss. We won't have
any more of them, but we were not going to anyway, were we?
I am sad that he has died, but it isn't a complete sense of loss, as it were.

Each of whom I mourned as a person I knew. Thanks a bunch, 'drake. Oh,
and my parents, too. But I didn't notice a sort of national sob-fest for
any of them, with all the BBC news programmes having instant obituaries and
so forth. Did you?

Funny how nobody saw fit to point out any of his webstuff to me *before* he
died. I am not even convinced that had I asked last year, most of the
people now going 'Oh, no, an irreperable loss' would have been able to tell
me whether he was still alive or not.
A good man has died, but nothing is lost from my childhood, ok? Or have
you thrown all your DVDs of the Clangers and Bagpuss onto a ceremonial
pyre?
Funnily enough, I haven't burned all my Aiken and Heinlein books either. I
even (gasp!) still read other dead authors' work. Dickens, and Smollett,
and Chesterton...

Somewhere up above, in the endless blackness of space, there is a chorus of
what sounds suspiciously like swannee whistles, gently weeping, whilst down
below, a saggy old cloth cat settles down to sleep, and Emily (like the rest
of us) loved him.

Deep sympathy is extended to all his fans. I've never seen any of those programs but have printed the post on "Does Children's Television Matter?" Once we've enjoyed it, I'll pass it on to my son & daughter-in-law as guidance for the grandbaby's viewing.
I'm also chuckling because nearby the husband is watching an episode of "G.K. Chesterton: The Apostle of Commonsense", which is one of his all time favorite programs.
