Interesting stuff.
I doubt that KV used it as the basis of Slapstick. He had a close
relationship with his sister who had died of cancer at age 40.
Survivor guilt?

Yeah, I know it was inspired by his sister, who was "the one he wrote
for".
And after I researched the story of the twins, I think it is unlikely
he - or anyone - would have heard of the story at the time he wrote
"Slapstick". But the coincidence between the true story and the story
of Slapstick is absolutely uncanny. Made me go "Wow!" when I read of
it.
"Slapstick" is the FUNNIEST Vonnegut novel, in my opinion, and whereas
he gave it a "D", I give it an A. I'd give it an A+ except for that it
loses a little too much momentum in the 2nd half. I've read it about 4
or 5 times, and every time I read it (usually a couple years have
passed) it cracks me up and I always find new things that are funny in
it. >> Stay informed about: Real life "Slapstick" twins now the subject of an opera! |

Slapstick is on the top of my list too. Definately underrated! I re-
read the book just before KV passed.
But yes. it IS a strange coincidence between the two stories.

Glad to see a fellow Slapsticker here!
Even KV himself only rated it a C+, but I felt it was because it got
panned so much by critics, and so he was just going along with them. I
think it's brilliant, and very funny!
I also like "Mother Night" a lot. >> Stay informed about: Real life "Slapstick" twins now the subject of an opera! |

Isn't there a movie of Slapstick? I thought I read somewhere years
ago that they made one. I could be wrong.
I liked "Mother Night" a lot too. It has been years since I have read
it though. I remember the cover had a guy in a cowboy suit riding a
Duchshound.
It was a very sweet love story about a man and two sisters.
I just re-read "Breakfast of Champions" again this week. It is an
easy read.
