Post subject: Size of Charlie Company, Imperial Cadre
Archived from groups: alt>books>david-weber (more info?)

BlankHi Folks,
"In Fury Born" and the main character, Alicia DeVries, have a permanent
spot in my all time top 5 list for books and their characters. I wish Weber
would write a sequel - certainly left the way clear for new adventures with
"O Branch". But I digress. When Alicia gets assigned to Charlie Company in
the Imperial Cadre, the structure is explained clearly and succinctly with
one piece of information I can't find. How many platoons? and how many
personnel? The narrative makes it clear a platoon is 3 squads of 18 people
each for a total of 54. The narrative also accounts for Charlie Company
having 3 platoons -- a total of 162 warm bodies. When they hit the LZ for
the Shallingsport raid, they have 274 personnel. On several occasions
throughout the remainder of the book, the number mentioned is 274 or maybe
275. I'd like to get some discussion going on the roughly 100 unaccounted
for people. I thought maybe a HQ platoon, but it would not be 100 people.
I thought maybe it's just 4th and 5th platoons were left out of the
narrative. Looking forward to discussion.
Thanks and take care,
Wally Post
