Basically here, the big name store got so big, they swallowed them up.

I don't think we had them in NSW. There are still Dick Smith stores, the
nerdy ones that sell all the dodads. One near us.

no, Rod Irving was a Melbourne specific electronics store - in fact I think
they were ONLY in Glen Waverley. I just remember he was the ultimate in
geeky/nerdy electronics store during the 80s when I was heavily into that
stuff and would buy all my leds and splitters and toggle switches... hhehehe
pretty well anything to make up various circuits!

LOTS of fun to buy stuff there and do mods to our home pc (which is just
impossible to do these days) ... soldering the dry solder spots on the
motherboard...

yep, do miss that store, it's probably disappeared because of the demand for
chain stores these days.
