'All 14-year-old children in England will have their personal details
and exam results placed on an electronic database for life under a
plan to be announced tomorrow.

Colleges and prospective employers will be able to access students'
records online to check on their qualifications. Under the terms of
the scheme all children will keep their individual number throughout
their adult lives, The Times has learnt.'

It's called Unique Learner Number. I guess it's UNLENUMB in newspeak.
Extraordinary name for it, considering it's all about state coercion,
ID cards, socialist money monitoring and state control in a country
that no longer has much learning of any worth in its schools.

falsification of grades and certificates is a massive problem at the
minute. laser copiers etc have made it dead easy. for my last job I
had to provide certificates going back 10 years, covering 15 exams and
5 years of postgrad study. It was a right ballsache. I am against ID
cards etc but I do not see the harm in this one, except as a symptom.

....and if that weren't bad enough, "British police want to collect DNA
samples from children as young as five who 'exhibit behavior indicating
they may become criminals in later life'."

I object. I think Liberty, in its more sensible sides, objects. But
why are the Left are surprised at a 'social democrat' Government made
up of old lefties wanted to control people's lives from cradle to
grave?

It's baffling how conservative authoritarians who call themselves
liberals get blamed on "the left." Some kind of of projection, possibly.

I've been reading Richard Hofstadter's *The Paranoid Style in American
Politics.* Some possibly relevant thoughts there.

whew.

I may need to go sip me some cosmo plurals, extra vodka, never mind the
frappacini-marxist. (Is there a story called "Frappacini's Daughter"
about a poison blueberry milkshake?)
