The TV schedules say that Iain Banks will appear on the Writers' team on
University Challenge, tonight at 20:30 (GMT) on BBC2. I wonder whether he
will be better at arts or science questions.

What happened to his Mastermind appearance? Did that ever happen?

After a poor start the writers finally humped the actors 185 - 105 (or
thereabouts). Iain was the team captain, BTW.

He was also supposed to be -on- Mastermind, answering questions on
whisky.

i dont suppose anyone has recorded either of the two appearences on
University Challenge and wants to seed them on bit-torrent or make them
available on some kind of 'savefile' esc upload service? i missed both
episodes and would very much like to see them... anyone?

Ah, you're right. Tonight, BBC1, 7.00, it seems. Then University
Challenge on BBC2 at 8.30. You wait ages for a TV quiz appearance,
then a bunch of them come along at once ...
