Post subject: Wrinkle in Time - 1st Edition Value?
Archived from groups: rec>collecting>books (more info?)

Hello,

I hope someone here can help me with what I think is a pretty rare
book. My Dad has a copy of this in his library and I'd like to sell
it for him. It is an ex-library copy with library pocket, stamps,
fraying to the edges of the boards, etc. but otherwise fairly sound
and intact for a book that had been in circulation for so long. The
dustjacket is a bit wrinkled and chipped and it may have a couple of
reinforced tears behind the dj protector. The dj appears to be a 1st
issue without the Newberry sticker. I'm no expert at grading but I
would say maybe, book = fair, dj = vg-. I've checked online and can't
find a copy. I'd like to know approximate value, and whether you
think I should try selling it on eBay, and if so, when is the best
time of year to list something like this? Also, would it be wise to
get the book repaired/ cleaned up before I sell?

Thanks!

Thanks for your response, but the true first is from Ariel books,
Farrar, Straus and Cudahy published in 1962. I believe it is scarce
compare to later FSG printing. I scrolled up on your link and found a
copy that I had not seen before, the one sold by Wonder Book. Their
asking a lot - not sure if it's realistic, but I guess any thing's
possible if it's the only one out there. Thanks for the link.

Thanks for your reply. I've found a copy of the true first that was
listed on ebay in December. Here's the link if anyone cares:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190179630735
Here's a brief discussion: http://tiny.cc/RB70F
I guess I should have looked a bit more, but it never came up when I
did a completed listing search. Aside from my copy being ex-library,
I think the book and dj are about the same condition.

1 - NONE of the books you see on ABE have sold, so you're
only seeing "hopeful" prices.

2 - You want to sell it on eBay? Look there for what identical
books have sold for. It may take awhile, but you do realize that
things sell for much less on eBay than elsewhere...especially
if you have a specialized-market item?

3 - Here's a list of the prices being asked by booksellers
for the Ariel edition; I didn't analyze condition but you can.

No, ex-library is a serious downgrade *in addition* to other
condition problems.

You might want to use snurl.com rather than the ad-laden tiny.cc
(your link STILL isn't showing up, while those offensive ads are).
