Is eBay best to auction an expensive book?

I hesitate to even venture an opinion given the vociferous nature of
the former comments. But, I am a long-time eBay buyer (who sells only
on occasion) and would recommend you start your auction with a minimum
bid of your lowest acceptable price, do not use a reserve at all (they
are off-putting, even to the experienced) and to convey an idea of the
real value of the item I would consider a Buy It Now price that equals
what one might expect to pay in a brick-and-mortar bookshop. Frankly,
the worst business practices I have seen on eBay are people who start
a listing at $1 with no reserve, let it gather some bids but when they
see the item is not going to sell as high as they'd hoped, they pull
the listing, sometimes just minutes before the auction's end... that
is infuriating! Be forthright, don't play into the vain imaginings of
the low-ballers, and maybe the right buyers will come along.

Well, I've been buying on eBay since its inception and have yet to see
that happen.
