first editions -- how do you tell?

How can you tell if Nancy Drews are first edition? I have several
without DJs, with dates in the early 1930s. Some list previous books,
while others don't -- so that doesn't tell me whether their first
editions or not.

What are the tell-tale signs that they are/are not? Is there a
reliable source/site out there that gives you an idea of what they're
worth? Thanks.

Maybe there is a way to tell if the books are some of the first by if they have a little note in the front saying that they have been updated to the modern methods. If they were updated, that most likely means they were some of the first editions.
