Archived from groups: alt>books>pratchett (more info?)

Hello
I am Ruben, an artist from the Manila, and I've done some Discworld
fanart over the years.
I'm hoping that posting the images here give them the best chance of
being seen by Terry Pratchett. Smile
Can someone help me get these images to him?
Thanks

He occasionally reads this newsgroup, but not often.

I doubt Terry will end up seeing them, but they're astounding. As a fan
of anime, I really like the bright colors... Tiffany in particular gives
a very Studio Ghibli feeling, a la Spirited Away.
...And yes, I wrote that sentence before going back to the website
itself and seeing that that was your inspiration for it. ^^; The Tiffany
books would make great animes...
I also took a quick look at your DeviantArt site. A very cool variety
of art styles. I was intrigued by the ultra-serious Inspector Gadget
takeoff. Though not so much by the nude Angua/Sally pic, which was a
bit...disconcerting.

Please let me know if you make any more Discworld art! This is really
nice. Cool

Generally, I'd suggest poking Colin Smythe when it comes to fan
activities that you /think/ PTerry needs to be aware of. Both to not
flood PTerry with a mountainful of communiques[1][1.5] and to filter out
the occasional thing[2] that might overstep the bounds of his
intellectual property and create Problems were he to be witness.

See the bottom of http://www.lspace.org/about-terry/index.html for
contact details.

Very good. I like them[3]. I honestly wouldn't be too surprised to see
your work on a future Discworld Calendar, or similar.

[1] By default, I expect that if he's actually reading AFP/ABP he's
already largely prepared to deal with the consequences. Wink
Unfortunately, I suspect that his 'free time' visibly allocated to here
and various other places is going to be reduced, under the circumstances. Sad

[1.5] Hmmm, how flooded does /Colin/ get? Wink

[2] Not like your contribution, I'm fairly sure.

[3] The attention to referential details on the first especially
reminded me of how the books get better on further viewing, and the
other two were strong in their own ways (colour/atmosphere/etc) showing
off your skills.

I'm not an anime buff, but I noticed the line "I hope their next book-
inspired work is more faithful to the source material". Were they "Howl's
Moving Castle"?

Frankly, that scene seems to have been largely written for the benefit of
fanservice artists; Sally even comments on it in the text.

I must say that I like them too, and I almost always loathe fanart.

I believe they may be referring to the version of Ursula Le Guin's
'Wizard of Earthsea' - released as 'Tales of Earthsea', produced by
Miyazaki's son, which Le Guin didn't like and which caused a rift
between father and son - Miyazaki Snr was not happy with what his son
had produced. I believe the rift has now been healed - when we went
round the Studio Ghibli museum last year they had a large exhibit
about 'Tales of Earthsea' and were happily selling dvds of it in the
museum shop. I think it is a fine piece of work, it just doesn't bear
much resemblance to the book(s) on which it is supposed to be based.

It looks like a spare badge - presumably Angua wouldn't want to
make people she is trying to arrest to to look cosely at her
throat (or look down her cleavage, should she be showing any)

I think it's even easier than that... The one she's wearing is part of the
uniform - in Angua's case almost certainly (and probably mentioned in the
books somewhere) worn on a sort of collar around her neck. The other is her
official warrant card... Most police forces in Roundworld have the same
thing - a badge on the cap/helmet/breast pocket/sleeve and a little
wallet-like device that is used as a copper's primary form of ID...

Just my 2cents

May be - but Howl's Moving Castle wasn't very faithful to the book
either...

Could well be. But do we know if the AMCW have yet come across the
concept of warrant cards?
