Archived from groups: alt>books>deryni (more info?)

I joined this group a little while ago because it was apparently aimed
at KKs books but since then I've seen very little on that subject and
a lot of other things from personal updates (no offense intended they
are obviously important to some people) to out and out paranoia.

So what is the purpose of the group and does anyone actually run it or
moderate the content?

This is usenet and thuse not "moderated" per se. Most of us have been
here for a long time - which is why you are seeing the personal type
updates, we've gotten to know each other through the years.

At the moment things are a bit slow, it happens. Hang around we'll
start talking something Deryni soon.

Welcome! =)

Hi and Welcome, Steve.

Ignore the paranoid stuff. It's nothting to really do with this
group. Every now and then, these "Persecution" posts show up on other
usenet groups than alt.books.deryni as well.

We are about discussing Deryni books, Adept books, and any/all other
matters relating to Katherine Kurtz. We've just had a verra, verra
quiet fall. Please don't feel shy about posting questions or
comments, though. Maybe you'll wake us all up!

In case you did not already know, the hard cover edition of High
Deryni will go on sale on December 4, this year.

Or pick a topic you want to discuss- usually you can get someone to chime,
even if it's one we've discussed before. Ask questions, propose ideas-
we're here, just a bit quiet at the moment.

What Melissa, ,Shiral, and Melissa said! <grin>

Welcome, Steve - if you'll notice, too, those "paranoid" posts (which
I have killfiled, mostly) are from some (or several) net loonies. They
crop up from time-to-time and are best ignored, like most trolls.

In any case, we're not ALWAYS quiet, so post a question, insert a
comment (or start a thread asking who would star in a deryni movie...)

Special diets- no fun. Cats are not a problem here. Even the 13 year old
is doing pretty well for his age. Dog, however- *sigh* Allergies,
allergies and more allergies! Has to have premium, no beef, no wheat or
soy, no chemical-y stuff type food. And even that doesn't do it completely.
Actually have to call vet this week and get him back in again- ears are all
nasty and infected again!

Grandma- no, can't be! I'm not old enough to be "Grandma"!!! LOL
Actually, it will be fun. We are looking forward to welcoming him in Feb!

Good to hear from you!

NOW you've done it! Better duck and run, Wes!

I *still* think that Rutger Hauer *as he was in "Ladyhawke"* would make
the all-time perfect Alaric Morgan.

As far as people now.... not so sure.

Yup, folks, Wes did it-- he's gone and resurrected the Dreaded Casting
Thread.

Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

SLAP!!! YOU EVIL MONSTER, YOU! =o) The Casting thread has arisen
from it's coffin and is menacing the forum!

Okay fine. Just for that, Jeremy Irons should play Wencit!

Hi Steve,

Sadly open groups are always susceptible to spam; not much any of us
can do about that other than ignore it.

The group, as I understand it, is aimed at fans of KK's literary
output. I've never really thought of it being restricted to
discussion about the works themselves - especially as many of the
people here have built up a relationship over a period of time.

There will always be occasions when friends need the support of others
and want to provide feedback to those people that have given such
support. A message-board is a great way of doing that when said
friends are numerous and spread across various geographical locations.

Having said that, I agree with you that the boards do go through dry
periods in terms of literary discussion. Once you get it going
though...!

Do you have a burning question / issue you'd like to discuss? Would
be great to see some critical debate going on.

Stick around, Steve, and let's see what we can get on the boil. Smile
