I am currently looking into buying english hardcover versions of the
discworld novels.
Is there any publisher that you would recommend? I am looking for
well
set type,
maybe a few nice illustrations.

Are there any publishers that translated the book into american
english?

Because I would want to avoid them.

Thanks,
Ferdinand

I would recommend the Canadian editions. They have the text and
the cover pictures of the UK editions, but I believe they are
less expensive than the UK editions.

The American editions do have certain words translated into American
English. Sometimes there are slight differences in content - Good Omens
had a few extra paragraphs added (which may have been included in later
UK editions, I don't know). Some changes Terry has no problem with;
there are more of them in the children's books, simple ones such as
substituting "sneakers" for "trainers".

I did notice some absurd changes in the American edition of The Truth,
which in the worst cases made subtle changes in the meaning and in all
cases were unnecessary.

Lately, the American editions have interior illustrations, especially
in the children's books. Making Money had drawings for each chapter
that were not in the UK edition. I have not yet acquired a UK edition
of MM to compare the text for changes, but I am under the impression
that there are relatively fewer changes nowadays; I could be wrong.

Differences such as illustrations might be mentioned in the Pratchett
bibliographies that are posted here regularly by ppint.
