I'm a trifle confused now... I was under the impression it would be a
mini-series like Hogfather, but is it a full feature film?

Well the website says about the folks making it.
RHI Entertainment, LLC. is a world leader in the production and distribution
of groundbreaking, quality miniseries and movies for television.
A Cast List! May annoy those who already cast it in their heads!
Sir David Jason as Rincewind
Sean Astin as Twoflower
Tim Curry as Trymon
David Bradley as Cohen the Barbarian
Laura Haddock as Bethan
Christopher Lee as Voice of Death
James Cosmo as Galder Weatherwax
Richard Da Costa as Luggage
Nicolas Tennant as Head Librarian
Michael Mears as Jiglad Wert
Roger Aston Griffiths as Lumuel Panter
Will Keen as Ganmack Treehallett
Peter Copley as Spold
Andy Robb as Third Rank Wizard
Ian Burfield as Ymor
Arthur White as Rerpf
David Schofield as Zlorf
Steven Marcus as Broadman
Liz May Brice as Herrena
Pia Mechler as Weems
Karen David as Liessa
Geoffrey Hutchings as Picture Imp
Andy Linden as Blind Hugh
Nigel Planer as Arch Astronomer
Adam Ewan as Master Launch Controller
Philip Philmar as Astrozoologist 1
Terry Pratchett as Astrozoologist 2
Thomas Morrison as Dim Student
Joe Sims as Big Star Man/Star Refugee

So himself does have a cameo as an Astrozoologist. Nice to see long time
audio tape chap Nigel Planer getting in on the act yet again!

Richard Da Costa might be a bit wooden in the role that he's been
asked to play.

If they film any more of the books, will Nick Tennant continue in the
role of Librarian, or will he go back to his _Hogfather_ role of
Nobby ?

More interestingly, if they have people cast as Cohen and Galder
Weatherwax that means that the series is going to cover TLF as well as
TCOM.

Cheers,
Nigel.

Nobody *said* it had Tim Curry in it! Why didn't anybody
*say*? Oooooo.

On the other hand, I don't know why I'm getting excited
about it, it's not like I'm going to see it any time soon.

Tim Curry as Trymon is one of the top three billings there, so I think
that's a foregone conclusion.

If he's playing the Librarian pre-transformation, he'll only be in this
one. If he's playing him post-transformation, he can double up, there's
little danger of the characters being confused.

I still want to know what's going to happen when they do Mort, with a major
role for Albert and a minor but significant one for Rinso...

IIRC, it was announced as one production based on both books with Terry
doing the amalgamation. I think it was decided that as TLF is a direct
follow-on it was easier to do that way and Terry gets to do a 'Carpet
People' and make it into what he would have written now with 20 years
more experience in writing.

That's very interesting in itself! I'll look forward to this script,
and maybe even the screenplay too.

Let's see - the more human looking one must be the Librarian ?

There's only one scene where they appear together. There's no reason
they couldn't use split-screen or other techniques to let David jason
play both roles.

Cheers,
Nigel.

I think the site list gave two names for the Librarian, but wasn't clear
as to which was going to be pre-transformation. I would have expected
the Luggage to be CGI anyway, but maybe they need someone to occupy the
space, the way Gollum was done.

With David Jason playing Rinso, he'll probably insist on the cameo if not
an increase in the role. It's easy enough to do. I'd go for the solution
used in the play: introduce Ponder as a student, or invent another minor
faculty member who can conveniently vanish from the series, possibly during
the general disaster in Sourcery.

Yes, but are they going to ignore the fact they look identical or (worse
yet) explain Rincewind is Albert's Identical Great-Great-Great Grandson[1]?

But who's playing the Patrician? He's mentioned in the blurb, and it's
a tiny role, but they're listing nameless characters; is he reduced to
an offscreen voice, or a note handed to Rincewind by a guard or something?
(That would eliminate the problem of his weight loss, anyway.) They could
easily have written him out entirely, but... he was in the blurb.

Personally, I would leave it at having one or two of the other wizards
giving the two of them quizical looks [1], but otherwise leaving it
unmentioned. You don't need to explain everything in a film.

Cheers,
Nigel.
