Halo is another take on Bungie's Marathon universe. Halo certainly has
been influenced by IMB's Culture universe.
If the Marathon universe takes your fancy after reading Hamish's Story
page (< <a rel="nofollow" style='text-decoration: none;' href="http://marathon.bungie.org/story" target="_blank">http://marathon.bungie.org/story</a>>) you can d/l a demo of M2
here:
<http://www.bungie.com/products/marathon2/marathon2.htm>
.... there's a link towards the bottom of the page for either Mac or PC
demo's.
In the same way that the Culture universe has been woven together from
IMB's books - we're given glimpses and clues of the whole rather than
the specifics - Bungie put together a basic shoot-'em-up game if you
wanted it, but provided a _huge_ backstory to explore if you were at all
inquisitive.
