Post subject: No news is no news (from Dave Joll)
Archived from groups: alt>books>m-lackey (more info?)

Dave Joll posted this on LiveJournal today:

Seeing that half a dozen or so of the news:alt.books.m-lackey crowd have
been spotted here at one time or another (and there's even a couple of
former news:soc.culture.new-zealand regulars here somewhere), I may as well
announce it here instead of bombarding my friends with emails: Since last
Friday, the ES^h^h IHUG^h^h^h^h TIG^h^h^h Vodaphone news server has lost
its link with the outside world, and (going by commentary on the in-house
news:ihug.general group), their technical staff don't even know what a news
server is, let alone how to fix it. So it looks like I won't be
participating in any newsgroup discussions for the foreseeable future.
(Although,
news:soc.culture.new-zealand has been moribund for the last few years
anyway.)

As far as the news:alt.books.m-lackey renaming proposal goes... I'm still
in favour of renaming the group if that's what's necessary for it to
continue to be available to American readers, and I'll just have a hunt for
the group if I can't find it in the usual place when (or if) the local
newsgroup service ever gets restored.

(and if any other of the a.b.m-l or s.c.n-z usual suspects are on
livejournal, please let them know that they're free to drop in over here
and say "gudday"...)

His LiveJournal username is southerndave, by the way. Mine is aeb if you
want to pop over. {Smile}

10 euros a year will solve his problem

I just forwarded this. Thanks for the suggestion. I was going to search
for recent suggestions. That search is now a little shorter. {Smile}
