It is very difficult to make a go of something like that.
In such venues, people want to hang around in front
of their laptops, drink coffee and read or at least thumb
through books -- but they don't generally buy enough
books to make the idea a success. Also, the books
are quickly shelf-worn from careless handling or from
coffee spills, so they become even more difficult to sell.
Slobs will slop coffee on the books and then get up
and leave without even putting the books back.
This Internet cafe/bookstore is an idea that a lot of people
toy with, but from what I have seen, it rarely, if ever,
works very well. Of course, you can keep the books in
a separate area and make people pay for them before
taking them back to the table area with their monitors
and coffee, but basically you are then running two
separate businesses.
