I stumbled upon James Joyce back in March when my English teacher
introduced us to the stream-of-consciousness technique with Faulkner's
The Sound and the Fury. It was a good book, but I had heard her
mention that he was inspired somewhat by Joyce's pioneering work in the
genre. So I picked up Ulysses and read that over about a 5 month span.
I just finished Finnegans Wake about a week ago and am reading A
Portrait in my English class right now. I hope to finish that, Stephen
Hero, Dubliners, and Exiles before the first of the year (I'm going to
hit it hard over Christmas Break). So anyways, when did you all first
start to read Joyce (I'm 17, by the way)?

I was assigned Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man in high school.
We didn't fully appreciate it, but he did remind us of our young,
pretentious selves. Smile Later I read Dubliners on my own, and got into
Joyce from there.
