It is a matter of canon that the ships *are* made of unobtanium.
Civilians framework and Warships entire (frame and sheathing which may
or may not be thick enough to be classed as armor)(depending on ship
class). That is why military shipyards can so easily build civvies
when warship production is below max production capacity like
Blackbird was when Honor was discussing it with Willie.
